It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Dr. Brandon Jutras, Associate Professor of Microbiology-Immunology at Northwestern University and a valued member of the Global Lyme Alliance research community.
Dr. Jutras was an internationally recognized Lyme disease researcher whose work focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease. His innovative science, collaborative spirit, and unwavering commitment to translating discoveries into better care for patients exemplified the type of investigator GLA is proud to support. His passing is a tremendous loss to the Lyme disease research community.
Over the past five years, GLA has been honored to support Dr. Jutras's research. In 2021, he received a GLA grant to advance new approaches for diagnosing Lyme disease across the various stages of infection and to develop new therapeutic strategies. Earlier this year, GLA awarded Dr. Jutras and his collaborators a second research grant to build on that work by developing a novel point-of-care urine test aimed at improving the diagnosis of both active and persistent manifestations of Lyme disease.
Dr. Jutras's scientific contributions have advanced our understanding of Lyme disease and brought new hope for improved diagnosis and treatment. His influence will continue through the discoveries he made, the scientists he mentored, and the patients who will ultimately benefit from his work.
