ABOUT LYME DISEASE:

Lyme disease is an illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, which is carried by the black-legged tick. When an infected tick bites you, it can transfer bacteria under the skin, leading to infection.

Lyme disease presents a complex challenge with a myriad of severe symptoms. Current tests are inaccurate leading to delayed and incorrect diagnoses. Once the disease becomes chronic there is no known cure. But that's just the tip of the iceberg...

THE  PROBLEM:

With one tick bite you can contract more than just Lyme disease. Ticks can carry more than a dozen diseases that can make you sick. When Lyme or other tick-borne diseases are not diagnosed and treated properly, disease spreads throughout the body, with symptoms becoming worse and changing over time. Even with treatment, up to 30% of people remain sick.

CDC guidelines state that  patients can be treated successfully with antibiotics for 10-21 days (depending on the stage of the disease). But what about those that remain sick?

Currently insurance companies do not recognize chronic Lyme disease as a legitimate illness and will not pay for long-term treatment.

In this situation, patients are left on their own to figure it out...

THE  CHALLENGE FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T GET BETTER:

The suffering of patients with chronic symptoms of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases is amplified by the absence of a clear treatment pathway, which also leads to a significant increase in healthcare costs.

Despite the growing problem, the lack of attention at the federal level for Lyme diagnostic and treatment research has hindered progress in providing Americans with the help they need.

As one of the fastest-growing tick-borne infectious diseases in the US, it is crucial to address this urgent issue.

BUT THERE IS HOPE
