Purpose

Global Lyme Alliance Inc. (“GLA”) maintains the highest level of respect for the privacy of its donors. This Donor Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) guides GLA’s board of directors, officers, employees, staff, volunteers and consultants on how they may and may not use donor personal identifying information.

Notice

This Privacy Notice is being provided in accordance with the requirements of data privacy laws applicable to GLA (collectively, “Data Protection Law”). References to “you” or a “donor” in this Policy mean any donor who is an individual, or any individual connected with a donor who is a natural person (each such individual, a “data subject”), as applicable. GLA is a data controller who determines the means and purposes for which donor Personal Information is processed in relation to GLA activities described below.

Personal Information

Personal Information. Personal Information means any information held (or collected to be held) on a computer or within a filing system that relates to a donor as an identifiable individual data subject. The categories of Personal Information GLA may collect and process include names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, signatures, payment information, bank account details or other information that is provided to GLA (collectively “Personal Information”).

Collection of Personal Information. GLA collects and stores the Personal Information that donors have provided through GLA website or when donors register for an event or otherwise contact GLA in person, by phone or email, with a question. GLA also collects Personal Information when donors make a donation to GLA, either on GLA’s website, at an event, over the phone or by mailing in a check. From time to time, GLA may collect Personal Information from donors in ways not described above.

Use of Cookies. The GLA website uses “cookies” to help personalize your online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a webpage server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the web server that you have returned to a specific page. For example, if you personalize GLA pages, or register with the GLA site or services, a cookie helps GLA to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of recording your personal information, such as billing addresses, shipping addresses, and so on. When you return to the same GLA website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the GLA features that you customized.

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the GLA services or websites you visit.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

GLA does not sell, trade, rent or share Personal Information. GLA will use Personal Information of donors only to:

(a) Complete donation/payment transactions;
(b) Distribute receipts for transactions and donations;
(c) Thank donors for transactions and donations;
(d) Solicit donations and participation in events;
(e) Inform donors about news, upcoming events and other activities of GLA;
(f) Internal analysis and record keeping;
(g) Comply with the law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with the requirements of the law or comply with legal process served on GLA; and
(h) Contact donors about changes to this Policy.

GLA may at times work with trusted partners and vendors as part of our fundraising and awareness efforts. In these cases, we specify in partner/vendor contracts that these partners/vendors are prohibited to use any Personal Information for any reason other than the purpose for which it was shared.

Data Protection

Physical Data. GLA utilizes commercially reasonable technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect Personal Information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. The Personal Information that you provide is stored in a secure location and accessible only by designated employees trained in the proper handling of Personal Information or vendors assisting with certain functions.

Electronic Data. GLA secures the Personal Information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. GLA employs industry standard techniques such as firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection, and site monitoring to protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access by users inside and outside the organization. When Personal Information is transmitted to other websites, it is protected through the use of encryption. Please understand, however, that no security system is impenetrable. GLA cannot guarantee the security of GLA databases, nor can GLA guarantee that the information that you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to and from GLA over the Internet. In particular, e-mail sent to or from GLA may not be secure, and you should, therefore, take special care in deciding what information you send to us via e-mail.

Notice of Breach. If GLA learns of a security breach involving your Personal Information, we will inform you of the occurrence of the breach in accordance with applicable law.
