May is  Lyme Disease Awareness Month

Protecting Our Most Vulnerable Patients

3-May-01-2023-06-39-30-5009-PMIn the important month of May, Lyme Disease Awareness Month, we are focused on the devastating effects that Lyme and other tick-borne infections can have on children, who are most at risk.

At GLA, we are reimagining childhood Lyme disease care by supporting research to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat children and young adults.

To realize this goal, GLA has strategically supported leading-edge research through the Pedi Lyme Net established at Boston Children's Hospital for several years. Pedi Lyme Net is a nationwide network of eight emergency room departments in Lyme-endemic areas. It also has an associated biobank of blood samples and clinical data from pediatric Lyme patients shared with research scientists and clinicians worldwide. Since pediatric Lyme disease may not be the same as in adults, it is important to make sure that diagnostic test development does not exclude children, and this data supports that need.

We look forward to the breakthroughs from GLA's support of this powerful medical resource in years to come.

Donor support of GLA and this program is critical. Together we will transform diagnosis and treatment for children suffering from all stages of Lyme disease, bringing new hope and cures to children and their families.
