Join Global Lyme Alliance in raising awareness and funds during Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Discover how you can contribute through donations, fundraising, or sharing your personal story.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Whether you’re one of the 476,000 people diagnosed with Lyme disease annually, a caregiver or loved one of a patient, or just someone who wants to help spread the word about this insidious disease, there are lots of ways to get involved.

Donate or Fundraise

A gift to Global Lyme Alliance supports groundbreaking research as well as efforts to raise awareness and empower the patient voice. Thanks to a generous donation from the Bang the Drum Foundation, all gifts made this month will be matched up to $100,000—doubling your impact to fund research, education, and support for those battling this complex illness. You can make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor (select “monthly” on the donation form). You can also invite others to join you in the cause by starting a fundraiser.

When you donate or fundraise, you’ll receive:

  • $100—Surprise GLA awareness gift
  • $250—Signature GLA coffee mug
  • $1,000+—Limited edition GLA leather journal

Why Global Lyme Alliance?

GLA is the leading nonprofit dedicated to conquering Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. A donation to GLA funds innovative research such as two pivotal studies, one about persistent inflammation in Lyme patients and one about novel treatment, which were recently published in Science Translational Medicine. Donations to GLA also go toward awareness campaigns and efforts to elevate the patient voice.

Share Your Story

Money is not the only way you can give during Lyme Disease Awareness Month. You can also help raise awareness by sharing your personal story with Lyme disease. You can submit a blog post (3-4 paragraphs and 3 images), send a video/reel, or create a social media post (less than 2200 characters and 1 image). In your story, be sure to include when/where you bitten, your symptoms, your progress, what you’ve learned/what advice you’d give to others, and how you are feeling today.

For examples, you can read GLA blogs. For help getting started with your writing, see “The Power of Sharing Your Story: How Writing Helped Me Heal from Lyme.” To submit your story, email marketing@globallymealliance.org with “Patient Story” in the subject line. We will do our best to review all submissions. You can also submit a vlog for GLA's ongoing "This is Lyme" campaign, where GLA is featuring the voices of Lyme all month long. Submissions can be sent to marketing@globallymealliance.org more information can be found here.

Sharing one’s experiences can help others feel less alone. But even if you’re not ready to share your story publicly, just telling one person can help foster understanding—and may teach them ways to prevent Lyme disease, too!
