Dianna Brescia is a GLA mentor who is sharing her Lyme story with the community to help spread awareness.

I am a 33 year old female from New York City who moved to LA to pursue her dream of helping others heal through food. In late 2014, I was diagnosed with a horrific diagnosis called Intracranial Hypertension. It's a severe neurological disorder that affects your vision and leads to blindness. Although I had one of the top doctors in NYC who was a neuro-opthamologist he did not believe I had Lyme. I got testing done for anything and everything and they could not find out WHY this happened to me and said I got it from "bad luck".

My doctor was a godsend and I do not fault him from not giving me a proper diagnosis with Lyme. He just had to go by what the CDC said on my western blot test results. The doctor at the time immediately put me on medication to reduce my swelling of the optic nerve. I was on the meds for 7 years. I drastically changed my diet, my surroundings, and became my own health advocate because it was not sitting well with me that this happened. As I started doing my own research, other health things began to happen. I put the puzzle pieces together and put money aside every week to eventually be seen by a LLMD and functional medicine doctor.

image4-5 (1) I eventually prevailed, my vision starting getting clear, my health changed due to my new eating habits, my prayer and meditation helped along the way or I would not be here today typing this. ( I am giving you a very short story of this journey ). I am now living in Los Angeles and I have my diagnosis of Lyme disease. I have dedicated my life to health and healing and helping others heal especially in the Lyme Community. I know how dark this place could be and if I could help others navigate this world and help them heal through food, this is what I am going to do.

Money is a big factor on how to get properly diagnosed and is the main reason some people can't... if I can do it, anyone can. When there is a will there's a way and for every NO there is a YES. If you're not getting the support you need from loved ones or you are alone, never give up because there is support out there for anything. This is my mission I want to spread along. While on this journey of healing my business has taken off and is helping others heal in more ways than one.

*Opinions expressed by contributors are their own. Hi, I'm Dianna, a wellness cook and wellness entrepreneur living in Los Angeles. My health crisis began in 2014. I almost went blind, not knowing at the time it was Lyme Disease. That day, my entire life changed. I took my health into my own hands, prevailed, and changed my entire life and career path giving birth to my holistic personal chef business Kitchen Remedy, which has been featured in LA TIMES & People Magazine. Which was founded out of my illness. I am now an active chronic illness health advocate and my passion and purpose in life are to now share the knowledge and pass it forward. I know how lonely and scary it could be to navigate these waters alone. I am here to help.
