May 28, 2025 -- Global Lyme Alliance (GLA), the leading nonprofit dedicated to combatting Lyme disease through research, awareness, and patient support, is pleased to announce the opening of its 2025 research grant cycle. GLA prioritizes research that accelerates the development of innovative diagnostics, elucidates disease mechanisms, and advances novel treatment strategies for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. A particular emphasis is placed on understanding and addressing post-treatment and chronic manifestations of Lyme disease. Applicants may request up to $175,000 per year, inclusive of up to 10% indirect costs, for projects lasting one to two years.
GLA’s research grant application process consists of two stages:
- Letter of Intent (LOI): Applicants submit a concise, one-page overview of their proposed project via GLA’s online portal by June 30, 2025 at 11:59pm ET. This stage requires a simple budget and biosketch. LOIs will be reviewed for programmatic fit and scientific feasibility.
- Full Proposal (by invitation only): Applicants whose LOIs are selected will be invited to submit a detailed full proposal in early August. The full proposal includes a 6-page research plan, detailed budget, and supporting documents. These submissions will undergo peer review by GLA’s Scientific Advisory Board.
“At a time when federal support for scientific research is more vulnerable, we’re proud that GLA continues to offer meaningful and sustained backing to investigators advancing the field of Lyme disease,” said Armin Alaedini, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer. “This grant cycle underscores our commitment to ensuring continued scientific momentum in an area where progress is urgently needed, while supporting translational research that can lead to tangible improvements in diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for patients affected by tick-borne diseases.”
